Email

Users can send, receive, store, organize and archive email messages (with attachments) using all standard email options, including forward, copy, blind copy and reply. Users can specify rules for forwarding, sorting, delegating, rejecting and vacation replies. POP and IMAP support means users can continue to use their familiar email clients if they wish. Address books can be personalized and flexibly organized. Messages can be consolidated from other mail sources into one mailbox.

Capabilities include calendaring and scheduling, task management, template-based Web client, anti-spam mechanisms, list server and rules server, and support for 25 languages—all in a low-cost, rapid-to-deploy solution. Messaging, discussion groups, calendaring and other features facilitate information flow and interactions among internal and external users.

Extensive anti-spam mechanisms block unsolicited bulk email to save users time and increase user satisfaction. Capabilities include real-time lookup of blacklisted sites, reverse Domain Name System (DNS) resolution, blocking of Internet Protocol (IP) address ranges, remote sending only from allowed or trusted IP address ranges, and preventing the sending of remote mail to more than a specified number of recipients.

File Sharing

Files are shared from a secure, role-based permissioning structure. Users within certain groups of access can share and distribute documents, files, pictures, etc, all via the Portal. No client-side software is required, so files are accessible from anywhere with Internet connectivity. All this is done with security features such as file activity logs, intruder and hacker prevention, antiviral scanning, and full disaster recovery protection.

News and Events

News and announcements can be posted to prominently display events and information. Portal administrators can update headings and announcements quickly and easily for up-to-the minute notices.

Shared Calendars

In a web browser or any other client that supports the iCal standard, users can add appointments to a personal calendar, schedule meetings and recurring events and add notes and to-do lists to calendars. iCal standards support means that any client or server that supports these same standards can interoperate with email. Users can enhance time management and organization by creating tasks to remind themselves or others of important items.

Discussion Groups

Users can participate in email-based discussion groups. Administrators can use moderation features to filter postings before they appear on the list. Any email client can be used for moderation. Administrators can create announce-only lists to push information to subscribers while preventing them from posting to the list. For example, this feature would be very useful in the education environment, as teachers could use it to distribute class announcements.

Communities

Allows users to create and manage portal communities, virtual workspaces for online teams to work together within the portal. Setting up a community is simple and does not require IT or web development knowledge, giving your organization a powerful collaboration tool without additional management costs. The community’s creator determines an appropriate access security level and can make the community as public or restricted as needed. A portal community gives members the following tools:

File sharing: Allows users to upload, store, and download files within the community portal

Calendar: A common calendar for posting events for all members to see

Chat: Allows users to chat with other community members

Discussion: Hosts threaded discussions

News: Simplifies posting news items so the team can be kept up to date.
